The first, is to receive a sprinkler system tune up with a water smart ET Satellite Timer! We use trusted Rain Bird sprinkler timers. The other option is to remove your grass and opt for a xeriscape like this family did.

Many water districts in Orange County will actually give a drought tolerant landscape rebate for grass removal! The water savings will be very noticeable. Instead of a sprinkler head spraying a wide area of grass, drip irrigation can apply just the right amount of water to each individual plant. Mulch or wood chips retain water and keep the soil around the plants from drying out.

Orange County Landscape

TRU Landscape Services just finished a landscape in Anaheim Hills. In this project we installed a new grass area and a concrete walkway. The first thing we did was remove the old grass. We haul most of the debris to a recycle yard. Once all of the old grass is removed then we install soil amendments. Most of the time our rototiller reaches roughly 8” inches deep. Most grass roots only grow down about 2” deep. After all of the soil amendments are installed, we then level out the dirt. In this process we will rake the dirt level and then roll it with a water roller. Once all this is complete we can install the new sod. The sod we use is grown out of Orange County, but it’s cut fresh the night before at the sod farm. The drivers bring it early in the morning. Our crews install it right away and get the sprinklers going. Most grass dies in Orange County due to a lack of water, so make sure the sprinklers are covering 100%.

Orange County Concrete

TRU Landscape services can provide all of your outdoor needs. We have been serving Orange County over 25 years. TRU Landscape Services installs concrete. This project had a side yard that was in need of new concrete. The concrete had to have a swale in it. This would allow the water to run to the front yard. Our crews made fast work of it. First they set up the forms so that all of the water ran away from the house and to the front yard. Then they installed wire mesh in the walkway. The wire mesh gives the concrete extra strength. The next day we poured the concrete. The concrete was finished with a light broom finish. We performed all of this work while the customer was on vacation!! The customer had a enough faith and comfort in our company that they hired us and then left on vacation. When arriving home the customer was really happy with the back lawn and the new concrete.

Orange County Landscape

TRU Landscape Services just finished a Landscape renovation in Orange County. The Church that hired us had over 100 Rose bushes in the front of the church. This was a problem because after Sunday services the children would be playing in the rose bushes. Another problem the church had was a busy street in front of the property. During the week the church has a child care program and there is no fence to keep the children from running out into the street. The first phase of this landscape renovation was to move the Rose bushes. The church didn’t want to throw away the roses, so we moved them onto another part of the property. The best time of the year to move roses is during the winter. So the first problem we faced was that it was the middle of the summer and it was very hot outside. This is not the best time of the year to move the roses. After explaining this to our customer we agreed to move forward. On the first day we moved all of the Roses and started the irrigation.

Orange County Sprinklers

TRU Landscape Services provides all different types of irrigation services in Orange County. For these Rose Bushes we installed the new Toro water saver nozzles. First we installed new pipes along all of the roses. Then we installed the new sprinklers. After flushing the new sprinklers out we installed the water saving nozzles. Right after finishing the sprinkler system we turned on the water. We thought it would be best to water the Roses twice a day. We are happy to say that all of the Roses lived through the landscape renovation.

The second phase of this project was to install a new fence around the front of the property. First we installed the block pilasters. We built the pilasters out of Split Face blocks. These blocks do cost more to install but we feel like the appearance is well worth the money. After finishing the block pilasters we moved forward to the installing of the Wrought Iron fencing. Our customer was extremely happy with the new fencing!!

TRU Landscape Services just finished a landscape project in Anaheim. The city of Anaheim is surrounded by the cities of Yorba Linda and Orange. Disneyland is located in the city of Anaheim. Our project was to install sprinklers, concrete curb and low water plants. We gave the customer an estimate and went over some ideas with them. Shortly after that they hired us to landscape their front yard. The customer wanted a dry river running through their front yard. TRU Landscape Services thought that a concrete curb would be the best application to outline the dry river bed.

Bobcat Orange County

The area in which we were landscaping had a huge mound of dirt. This mound was causing the water to run towards the house. This wasn’t good, we were surprised that the house didn’t have water damage. So on the first day of work we took our Bobcat and removed the dirt down to a level grade. We did leave a little pitch on the yard so that the water would drain forward away from the house. After removing the dirt we installed the sprinklers. For this project we installed Rain bird 4” 1800 series. We installed all new pipes and fittings. Landscape Borders

After finishing the first day we came back on the second day and installed a concrete curb for the dry river bed. We prefer using this style of landscape border. Being made out of concrete the curb should last for many years of enjoyment. After finishing the border we installed a landscape fabric to block future weeds from growing. Next we placed the boulders in place.

Low Water Plants

On the final day we installed the gravel down the dry river. Next we installed all of the plants. This area could have been installed with grass, but by installing low water plants, this customer will save hundreds of dollars on water. Not to mention that these plants won’t need to be trimmed or cleaned but for a couple times a year. Now is the time to water your lawn!! We must receive five calls a week from customers asking for help. They haven’t been watering there lawns long enough. We have found out through over 20 years in the landscape industry that in Orange County most lawns fail due to a lack of water and fertilizer. In the summer months you must turn up your sprinklers so that enough water penetrates the root system. Every yard has different conditions like soil and sprinkler types but we say, the best rule of thumb for watering is to water as deeply and frequently as possible while avoiding runoff. If you have water running off the grass surface or puddling, your sprinklers are spraying too much at once, or your watering cycle is too long. Adjust as needed to avoid runoff. Early morning is the best time to water your lawn. A hour before the sun comes up. If your lawn is getting to wet try setting the timer for two start times. Once your lawn is green try turning your water down a few minutes and if in a week’s time the yard remains green leave your timer alone.

Water conservation

TRU Landscape Services is constantly learning the best ways to save water. We have ET timers that use satellites to control your watering. These timers will cut down your water usage by 20%. We have timers that can connect to your computer and we can adjust your sprinklers from our office. Many of the sprinkler companies have new sprinkler nozzles that will reduce your water usage. We have been installing Toro precision nozzles in all of our new landscapes and were really happy with them. Toro has made these nozzles so that you can install them on all other major sprinkler brands. This makes it really easy for us to come out to your property and change just the nozzles. These nozzles will save you up to 35% of your water usage. Irritrol has a new climate Logic, this system uses your old timer and gives it commands on how much to water. You will have your own little weather station attached to your property. One of the best ways to have a green yard at all times is to hire a professional landscape maintenance company. A professional company will adjust your sprinklers for proper watering all year long. We strive to train all of our crews to conserve water and still maintain a lush green lawn. At TRU Landscape Services we fertilize all of our properties on a regular basis. By fertilizing your lawn and plants on a regular basis you provide all of the nutrients that they need. Most lawns will require less water when fertilized on a regular basis. We have many customers ask what kind of fertilizer is best.. We use different fertilizers for every season. Our best recommendation is to hire a professional maintenance company. But if you like to maintain your lawns yourself, we would recommend your local farm supply or a irrigation supply house. We would avoid the large chain stores because you never know how much experience the person selling you the fertilizer has.

Orange County Sprinkler Repair

TRU Landscape Services was called out to Yorba Linda to repair a broken sprinkler. Yorba Linda is a city in Orange County, California. After seeing the broken sprinkler we informed the customer it was over spraying into the street by five feet. There were other sprinklers in this area also over spraying onto the street. The customer told us that the sprinklers were only 2 years old. They told us the name of the company that installed them and we were surprised that they did this sloppy work. We gave the customer an estimate to move some sprinklers around and they approved it. The estimate was a few hundred dollars. We installed new Toro precision nozzles. These nozzles will save up to 35% of the water used. The customer was already saving money by calling us out. We installed new nozzles on all of the sprinklers in this area, this corrected the over spray problem . The customer was wondering why their car always had water spots on it. The sprinklers were spraying it every time they left it in the street. Plus they were sending thousands of gallons of water straight into the storm drains. If all of the residents in Orange County could save 35% of the water they use on their landscape the whole county would benefit. Poorly installed sprinkler system alone waste thousands of gallons of water used every day in Yorba Linda. By installing the sprinkler system properly you can have a beautiful landscape without going broke on your monthly water bill.

Orange County Sprinkler Systems

Many water districts in Orange County are raising their water rates. Plus many of the water districts are putting customers on tier systems for their invoice charges. The tier systems go by how much water is used. Customers who use larger amounts of water will land in the higher tiers and will be penalized for this. TRU Landscape Services believes we can make a difference in this problem. Let us come out to your property and design a proper sprinkler system. If your sprinkler system is on the newer side, we can retro fit your system to save water. There are many new efficient ways of saving water. We have successfully changed hundreds of sprinkler systems in Orange County. New Et based controllers can save you up to 25% of the water used on your landscaping. One more great benefit is after the new timer is installed there is very little adjustment required. Your sprinkler run off will be cut down too. These new Et. timers will water one area for a small amount of time. Then move onto another area in your landscape, water for a short time and then go back to the first area to water some more. This gives the water time to soak into the soil. Plants with deeper root systems require more water. The sprinkler timer will turn these areas on and off many times during the water window to achieve this goal. Your current sprinkler timer would turn on for a long time and a large amount of this water will run off of the landscape and be wasted. We had a customer ask why I can’t set my sprinkler timer for a shorter amount of run time and have multiple start times. The answer is yes you can and we recommend this. You just need to watch the weather and when it’s colder out turn down the amount of water being used. The new smart timers do this for you the whole year.
